Position Summary:
The Park Worker serves as a semi-skilled field laborer in landscape maintenance. Under the direction of the Foreman and/or District Supervisor, the Park Worker performs all horticulture and maintenance tasks as assigned to them in their area. Daily responsibilities will include manual labor, use of hand and power tools, and use of larger equipment and vehicles. This position may occasionally be assigned to different parks based on the needs of the park system.
This position is seasonal and non-exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act and the NYS Department of Labor rules and regulations. The workweek includes flexible schedules depending on the workload, with some weekend and holiday work.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- General landscape, park and horticultural maintenance including:
- Debris removal
- Garbage receptacle maintenance
- Lawn mowing and weed whacking
- Raking leaves, shoveling and sweeping
- Planting, weeding and mulching
- Special events set-up and clean-up
- Any and all other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Attributes:
- Must be highly motivated and able to work in a fast paced environment
- Holding a CDL is a plus
- Ability to work closely with other staff members and interact with the public
- Experience with hand held power tools is preferred
- Training and/or licensing in operation of larger equipment and vehicles is a plus
- Must be available to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily outdoor hands-on work. May perform in extreme weather conditions.
- Must be adaptable to changing work environment, including working in different zones/park locations
- These job duties require an employee to bend, reach, stoop, stand and/or walk for extended periods, as well as lift and/or move heavy objects at times up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to adapt to ever changing resources and limited budget
