Who: Western New York tree care companies, professional arborists and Olmsted’s forestry team
What: The 17th year local tree care companies and professional arborists volunteer their time and expertise for the Conservancy in recognition of Arbor Day. This makes it the longest running volunteer arborist day event in New York State.
When: Saturday, April 29, 2017 — 10:00 a.m.
Where: Delaware Park, Buffalo, NY 14214, Crandall Woods and the playground behind the Buffalo Zoo
Parking is available on Amherst Street and Crandall Drive
This volunteer-only event began in April 20, 2001, with support from the New York State Arborists Association, local tree care companies, Conservancy volunteers and the City of Buffalo Parks Department. In the past 16 years, local tree care companies and arborists have completed over a million dollars worth of work for our Olmsted parks. The work they do can include pruning of hazard deadwood and limbs, removal of dead and hazardous trees, structural pruning on young trees and fertilization of recently planted trees.

Arbor Day is an annual observance that celebrates the role of trees in our lives and promotes tree planting and care. As a formal holiday, it was first observed in 1872, in Nebraska. The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy is the first nonprofit organization in the nation to manage and operate an entire urban park system that consists of 850 acres of beautifully designed parks, parkways and circles.
