Augmented reality app launches for Olmsted Parks

By April 20, 2018No Comments

THERE IS A NEW WAY TO ENJOY THE 850 ACRES OF BUFFALO OLMSTED PARKS. HERE IS A LOOK AT THE UNIQUE TECHNOLOGY YOU CAN USE TO ENHANCE YOUR EXPERIENCE RIGHT IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND.

The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy is celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the parks system with a new app and week of events.

150 years ago, Frederick Law Olmsted came to Buffalo and changed the landscape of the community with the parks system.

Now, the Olmsted Parks Conservancy is changing the landscape of how the community enjoys the parks with the app!

The app features three parts. There is reality wayfinding to learn about the entire parks system and get from park to park. There is trivia for education about the 6 parks, 7 circles and 8 parkways that make up the Olmsted System. And there is a hologram component.

“It’s of Frederick Olmsted…or an actor portraying Frederick Olmsted,” Michael Baer, the app developer from Fusion Corp, said. “He’s kind of giving a little bit of history to the park.”

“As you walk down this path behind me, join me to get the full augmented reality experience,” the actor playing Frederick Law Olmsted says within the app.

The app is live and can be downloaded on Apple or Android phones. Just search “Olmsted.” It is free.

There are also a series of events happening in the community during “Olmsteducation Week” from Earth Day to Arbor Day. You can find the schedule here.
